Position Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Position Title Medical Receptionist Employment Status Full Time Months Campus Biddeford, ME Description The Medical Receptionist receives the patient / student by greeting and welcoming to the Student Health Center.

Using appropriate phone etiquette answers the phone and directs the patient by making appointment, or scheduling service.

The Medical Receptionist is often the first point of contact and must be familiar with services provided, health care providers, referral process and other UNE departments. Responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients as they contact the UNE Student Health Center personally or by telephone. Answers phones using proper phone etiquette, schedules appointments, greets scheduled and walk in patients, takes insurance information, all using polite consistent manner.
  • Takes voicemail messages off, responds to voicemail messages as needed. Route phone calls to appropriate staff, take phone messages for staff, direct phone calls to other departments as appropriate.
  • Place reminder phone calls to patients. Follow up on No Show patients daily. Electronic schedule and electronic record as needed.

  • Prepares and updates daily schedule for providers and staff, prepares charts for daily schedule as needed. Updates electronic schedule as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping reception and waiting area clean and organized.

  • Prepares and photocopies as needed, prepares and faxes documents as needed.
  • Reviews and verifies patient insurance coverage, Process insurance claims for each patient visit. Collect other payments as appropriate.
  • Communicate appropriately with Director, Coordinator, Office Manager and all other staff.
  • Communicate patient concerns, complaints to Office Manager, Coordinator or Director as appropriate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Qualifications Associate’s Degree in an appropriate discipline, plus two to three years of relevant clinical experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.

  • Medical assistant training / certification.
  • CPR basic training
  • Good computer skills, spelling, filing, reception, and other general office skills.
  • Possess good basic reading, writing and math skills.
  • Some training or experience in use of computerized filing / database management systems.
  • Good basic technical knowledge / skills related to assigned clinical duties.
  • Ability to speak clearly and comfortably.
  • Ability to use tact, discretion and sensitivity in dealing with patients and confidential information.
  • Ability to deal courteously and efficiently with health care providers, hospital personnel, insurance companies, attorneys offices, and others.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, written, verbal; with patients, managers, other staff, other UNE departments.
  • Problem Solving / Analysis and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to treat all patients with respect, and consideration in the most trying situations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other UNE departments.
  • Technical Capacity, ability to work in Electronic Health Record, scheduling and retrieve data as requested. Ability to file, type, create forms.
