Jumia is looking to recruit his / her Group Tax Associate.
Working as a member of the Jumia tax team, the Group Tax Associate will support the business by assisting with all tax and key strategic matters across Jumia’s operations in Africa, with focus on the tax compliance and structuring of business operations in Francophone Africa.
This role will report to the Group Tax Manager and his / her day to day role will encompass handling contract interpretation and drafting, providing tax advice to the business on operations, assisting the local entities with their tax audits and keeping up-to-date with global legislation which directly or indirectly affects the Jumia group.
Key Accountabilities Should Notably Include The Following
Effective delivery of all tax support services needed across all business operations of the group (directly, through local tax teams and using external resource, as appropriate)
Operate as a key business partner to provide high quality tax services to all of the operations in the markets where the group operates in Francophone Africa.
Assess and advise on liabilities, tax restrictions and risks of proposed transactions and advise practical tax solutions to meet the commercial needs under the direction of senior team members
The role also involves reviewing and drafting various agreements, terms & conditions, documents, internal memorandum, tax positions papers and any correspondence with tax administrations.
Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and Group policies. Become a key stakeholder in the tax reporting processes.
Review income tax returns and, more generally, the compliance with filing obligations. Actively manage the tax provision process with the local teams.
Teamwork with the business and the Finance function to identify and resolve tax matters early.
Support and coordinate tax audits. Liaise with external tax service providers and prepare materials to ensure the Jumia interests are well represented.
Undertake general tax research and investigation and prepare reports, guidance and prepare tax notices as and when required.
Any other tasks as assigned by senior team members.
Qualifications, Experience And Skills
Strong academic background (University Degree in Law or equivalent and admitted to practice). Ideally, the candidate has a dual experience in a reputable Law firm and in-house.
2 to 3 years’ experience with exposure to a broad range of tax issues in international tax law, contracts, tax audits management, tax reporting, financing in an international environment involving African countries.
An experience within the e-commerce sector would be a plus.
The successful candidate must be proactive, hard worker, team player, business and solution oriented, pragmatic in his / her approach to solve tax problems.
Excellent English language drafting skills. English fluency, excellent oral and written communication skills.
Arabic knowledge an advantage.
