About This Position

Scan existing marketing and branding within the artisan space and what do you see? In Morocco, it all can largely be summarized by a strategy of painting artisans as marketable caricatures needing to be saved by some outsider or by simply omitting artisans completely from the entire business.

Unfortunately, these approaches are common because they work they generate sales. However, these very strategies are a direct cause of the degradation of Morocco’s artisan sector.

Anou is driven by the belief that if the craft sector is to thrive, much less exist in the generations to come, we have to break the existing status quo of marketing and branding within the artisan sector.

Rather than take the easy route as Instagram brands have done, we have to ask the hard questions of how do we enable artisans to present themselves as they truly are?

How do we enable artisans themselves manage and control their narrative around their craft? How do we do this while generating increasing sales and making the status quo look as out of date as colonization.

Through this position, we’re searching for an individual who is passionate about answering these questions and working alongside artisans to create the future of artisan marketing and branding a future that is artisan led and centered around community. Is this you?

About Anou Directors

Anou’s director positions are not traditional director roles. Due to our artisan managed and owned structure, we seek directors to first and foremost support the growth of our artisan team (who have limited traditional education) to ensure that artisans themselves can fully manage the evolving operations and growth of the Anou Cooperative.

Each director must be willing and able to work behind the scenes and through the artisan team to achieve the wider objectives of the Anou Cooperative.

An example of this is not the role of the Director to do work for artisans, but to lead troubleshooting in areas the artisan team is unfamiliar with, then test and iterate solutions, and finally, work with the team to roll out such solutions.

About The Anou Cooperative

The Anou Cooperative is a community of artisans working together to build an artisan-centered, 21st century craft economy in Morocco.

Our cooperative is powered by our online marketplace that enables all artisans, regardless of literacy or geographic location, to sell their work directly to customers around the world.

Our cooperative is fully managed and owned by Morocco’s artisan community.
