Role Purpose

  • Main duties

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups and takes account of individual learning styles, age, ability and child protection and safety guidelines
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by working collaboratively with the wider teaching team
  • Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practice.
  • Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK
  • Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service

  • Job Overview

  • You will be timetabled to teach up to a maximum of 12 to 16 hours per week. With teaching taking place both on site and in our partner school (Al Madina School) throughout the week.
  • Our main teaching days are Wednesdays afternoon, Saturdays and Sundays all day. All teachers will be expected to teach Young Learner courses as this group constitutes the majority of our programme.

    Academic Year

  • September to July. There are currently 4x10 week terms and summer school intensive courses.
  • Courses

  • Our classes are 30hrs (Adults) 30hrs (YLs) per term. All courses from Beginner to Advanced levels and General / Business Englsh courses use British Council materials.
  • Teacher Training and Professional English courses use standardised British Council materials. Courses are based on completing sets of learning aims and following a standard learner journey.

    Assessment is based on skills work and is done on a continuous basis.

  • Teachers can expect to spend on average about 20% of the week teaching adult classes and 80% teaching YL classes mainly on Wednesdays, Saturdays & Sundays and Adults in the evening between 18.00 and 21.30.
  • British Council Morocco is recruiting professional and committed teachers for its centre in Casablanca for August 2021.
  • You should be a high proficiency speaker of English and have a first degree or equivalent, a CELTA / Trinity Certificate in TESOL.
  • Experience in teaching young learners is preferred but not essential. Clear, documented teaching experience and qualification in TEYL is necessary.

  • Short-listing is carried out against the essential knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience as specified in the Morocco teacher Role Profile.
  • Interviewing is carried out against the essential teaching skills and the 3 core behaviours. We will shortlist against desirable competencies where the applicant pool is large.

  • First Degree or equivalent
  • Cambridge CELTA / Trinity cert TESOL (or other certificate level qualification that meets the requirements set out at http : / / www.

  • Mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C1) IELTS Band 8 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
  • Up-to-date proof of language proficiency will be requested as part of the applications process.


  • Recognised diploma level qualification in EFL eg. Cambridge DELTA
  • PGCE / B.Ed in Primary or relevant subject
  • YL Extension to CELTA / TYLEC

  • Salary : 212 MAD / hour (for CELTA qualified teachers) and 227 MAD / hour for DELTA qualified teachers (All salary and allowances are subject to Moroccan tax)
  • Contract Length : 24 Months

  • Annual Leave : 14 public holidays and embed 35 non-teaching days in the academic calendar
  • Requirement : For foreign nationals, British Council will not support with residence card and work permit for this role.
