Org. Setting and Reporting The internship will be undertaken under the overall guidance of the Director of the Sub-regional Office for North Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, based in Rabat (Morocco) and the supervision of the staff managing the unit to which the intern has been assigned.

The Sub-regional office covers 7 countries in North Africa which are : Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia

The internship is a full time job (35 hours / week) of minimal duration of 3 months with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of 6 months and it is not remunerated.

Responsibilities Under the general guidance of the Director, SRO-NA, the intern will undertake the following assignments :

1. Collect information and conduct preliminary research on economic development, sector diversification, sophistication and structural change in North African economies

2. Assist with research and analysis of regional integration within the seven countries including analysis of current opportunities and barriers to increase intra-regional trade.

3. Participate to the organization of Expert Group meetings and other events organized by the sub-regional office.

4. Contribute to analytical papers in preparation for high level meetings, field missions or field advisory services organized by the office.

5. Perform additional duties as deemed necessary. Competencies Professionalism :

  • Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; Uses time efficiently. Education To qualify for an internship, the following condition must be met :

  • a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • c) Have graduated with a university degree

    Be computer literate in standard software applications; Work Experience Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in French (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme.
